This week we’re kicking off with a vintage-inspired engagement session by Member of Fine Art Curation Jessica Mangia. We couldn’t possibly be more excited about this. It’s the cutest and most stylish engagement we have ever seen. The details (love the umbrella set up! The love, scenery, and sun. Is there anything better).
I have been thinking about a retro beach photoshoot since a long time. I didn’t want to just style the shoot, but I wanted a couple who were invested in it. I was looking to recreate the magic of the 50s-60s with soft kisses.
Caitlin and I met during a photoshoot. She mentioned that she wanted to take some pictures with James. The photos were not typical, they had an incredibly fine taste and looked fun, yet glamorous. Caitlin liked my concept and so did James. It was very easy for me to choose a beautiful beach in Los Angeles to photograph our session. I selected Hollywood Beach because of its large expanse of open space, and the long stretch of sand that separates Oxnard and the Ocean.
My goal was to recreate a stroll through a vacation destination, while letting your imagination wander to Mexico or even Italy and Spain. It was important to me to use film to get the full vintage experience. I wanted to immerse myself in the entire shoot and not rely on the agility or speed of digital cameras. Over the years, I have collected our props from flea markets and vintage shops. I’m happy to say that my couples fit comfortably in this cute scene. ”
